| Taking rugby in Sri Lanka to the next level. This is vision with which the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union was commenced. And this it has been doing. The SLRFU has taken the initiative of creating a serious culture of rugby that was lacking in Sri Lanka. The Union has set forth to do so by spreading awareness regarding the game to all corners of Sri Lanka that were not tapped until now. This has opened new doors and expanded the horizon of rugby. It has ensured that there is greater access to all and thereby increasing the standards of the sport in Sri Lanka. This year the SLRFU has set out with the aim of bettering the ranking of Sri Lanka in Asia. The SLRFU hopes to bring Sri Lanka which is ranked 5th in the 15 a side category and 9th to in the 7 a side version of the game, to the top three slots in both forms of the game. Understanding the need for a sustainable force of talented players, the SLRFU has taken the initiative to start Junior Development Programs. These programs are being carried out with the goal of improving the quantity and quality of players between ages 8 and 20. These programs will help in also improving the knowledge and standards of coaches at school level by providing necessary training and physical support. Post Conflict areas such as the North and Eastern Provinces will be the main focus of the SLFRU this year as they hope to provide the opportunity to those who were not granted the opportunity due to the civil war. The SLFRU is also carrying out Anti-Doping campaigns to ensure fair and equal play, keeping in line with the International Rugby Board regulations. | |
